MUSEUMS for collectors of old bottles, pot lids and old advertising

There are many museums well worth visiting to see a whole range of Bottles & Bygones. My personal favourites are those which set out to recreate old shops and the inside of homes many years ago. Many of these belong to Councils but there are also some excellent private museums. Visit any of the following and you should see a good range of interesting old bottles, advertising and packaging plus a wealth of bygones !

BASS MUSEUM of BREWING HISTORY -Horninglow Street, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire DE14 1JZ Telephone 01282 45301

BATH INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE CENTRE - Camden Works, Julian Road, Bath, Avon BA1 2RH Telephone 01225 318348. This famously incorporates "Mr Bowlers Business" - showing just how a Victorian Mineral Water business was conducted using real old bottles and bygones.

BIRMINGHAM MUSEUM of SCIENCE & INDUSTRY - Newhall Street, Birmingham B3 1RZ Telephone 0121 - 236 1022

BUCKLEYS MUSEUM of SHOPS, 90 High Street, Battle, East Sussex TN33 0AQ Telephone 01426 4269

MUSEUM of ADVERTISING and PACKAGING (The Robert Opie Collection) Albert Warehouse, Gloucester Docks, Gloucester GL1 2EH

Also you could try BYGONES in Torquay. There is another good museum in Cornwall, the name of which escapes me. If you know of other museums not listed here then let me have the information and I will include it. I hope to have some photographs or images on these pages soon from the respective museums.
